What are Ruling Planets?

In Krishnamurti Paddhati, the Ruling Planets (RPs) are the few planets that "rule" the very moment you ask a question or note an event. Because they encode the ascendant, the Moon and the weekday of that instant, K.P. called them the Divine Timekeepers: an event promised in a horary or natal chart tends to fructify when its significator appears in the RP set — making RPs the fastest cross-check in KP practice.

  1. 1

Lagna Star Lord — The star in which the ascendant degree rises — the querent's drive and the matter's direction.

  2. 2

Lagna Sign Lord — Lord of the sign rising on the eastern horizon.

  3. 3

Moon Star Lord — The star where the Moon transits — the mind of the moment, weighty in horary judgment.

  4. 4

Moon Sign Lord — Lord of the rasi the Moon occupies at that instant.

  5. 5

Day Lord — The weekday ruler — in KP the day runs from sunrise to sunrise, so a moment before sunrise answers to the previous weekday.

  6. 6

Lagna Sub Lord (Reserve 1) — The Vimshottari sub division (249-division) of the ascendant star.

  7. 7

Moon Sub Lord (Reserve 2) — The same sub division applied to the Moon's star.

Under the hood: positions come from Swiss Ephemeris (Moshier analytic theory, arc-second grade) converted to the sidereal zodiac with your chosen ayanamsa; the ascendant is computed for the exact coordinates; timezones resolve through the IANA database so daylight saving is correct for the historical date.
